Poetry reader: Una O.Kristinsdottir / Live singing done by Anita Andradottir.
Þrettándinn, also known as "Thirteenth Night", is an Icelandic holiday celebrated on the 6th of January. It is the last day of Christmas (Jól), families gather, have food and then head of to a bonfire where they dance, sing and have fireworks in a companionship with trolls, santa's and elfs.
In a celebration of that day we invite people here in Australia to join us for an evening of Icelandic poetry reading. It was a successful night and we are hoping to do it again next year.
A wonderful event. I was transported to the beautiful and difficult and wonderful parts of Iceland. An unusual country makes unusual people. Thank you.
Thank you Una and family. Didn't matter one bit that I don't know a syllable of Icelandic - it's a beautiful language, and was expressively recited. Very lovely singing too by your talented daughter - a dottir-duet would be something special. Hope to see you around Saga again - many thanks also to Liz for hosting these unique events.
I want to thank everyone who joined us on the night, it made it such a special night, it was a real pleasure.
